Turkey's apparel exports dip 28.76% y-o-y in Jan-May 2020

Apparel exports from Turkey decreased by 28.76 per cent in the first five months of 2020 compared to the same period in last year, according to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute and the country's ministry of trade. In January-May 2020, Turkey exported apparel worth $4.957 billion, compared to exports of $6.959 billion clocked during the first five months of 2019, the data showed.

Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $2.668 billion during the first-five months, registering a sharp decrease of 30.9 per cent from $3,860 billion earned during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $2.289 billion, a decline of 26.1 per cent from $3.098 billion exports made in the same period of 2019.

Meanwhile, import of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles increased 3.1 per cent year-on-year during the period under review to $1.123 billion. On the other hand, man-made filament import decreased 1.7 per cent to 935.669 million.
