US charts policies more favourable to US workers: USTR

US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer delivered the trade policy agenda and annual report to the Congress recently, outlining how those are benefitting US workers and contributing to the economy. “Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, the United States is pursuing trade policies that are more favourable to American workers,” said Lighthizer.

Significantly re-writing major trade deals with Korea, Mexico and Canada., undertaking dramatic new enforcement efforts to stop unfair trading practices by China and other nations, aggressively enforcing US trade laws, and ensuring that countries receiving benefits under the generalised system of preferences (GSP) programme live up to eligibility standards set by the US Congress are some of the issues Lighthizer highlighted.

To continue these economic gains, in 2019 the Trump Administration is urging Congress to approve the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and is launching new trade negotiations with Japan, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, the USTR said in a press release. (DS)
