Bangladesh BGMEA, Solidaridad Network Asia sign MoU for 2030 ESG goals

The Solidaridad Network Asia and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to combine efforts related to workers’ well-being, reskilling and productivity enhancement; expedite the process of building a digital platform for sustainability reporting; and achieve environmental, social and governmental (ESG) standards and international corporate due diligence for a sustainable and green apparel sector.

This will contribute to achieving BGMEA's Sustainable Strategic Vision: 2030.

The initiative will work on skilling and re-skilling factory workers and mid-level managers on the Fourth Industrial, green workplace and women empowerment by designing and implementing supervisory skill development trainings.

Both organisations will promote improved energy efficiency business models and help develop the required capacity of BGMEA member factories through consultations.

Dutch and French derivatives on due diligence will be implemented.

Solidaridad will support BGMEA in creating a digital data platform to obtain meaningful and reliable data from the BGMEA member factories on the environmental social and governance issues to ensure more transparent and real-time reporting.

The sustainability reports of BGMEA member factories will be prepared in an updated platform for wider reach and circulation, according to Bangladesh media reports.

The collaboration will also work on improving the capacities of factories in chemical management and incorporating global chemical standards (ZDHC) into the policies of apparel industries and management systems to strengthen reporting and monitoring mechanism.
