During his exclusive interaction with Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft, last week, Indian Prime Minister donned a recycled jacket presented to him during the inauguration of Bharat Tex 2024 on February 26 this year.

“Recycling and reusing are inherent to our nature and ethos. Take this jacket for example: it is crafted from recycled materials. The uniqueness of such material lies in their origin. The scrapped fabric from the tailor, along with the old garment, and 30-40 per cent discarded plastic have been repurposed to create this fabric,” Modi told Gates during the interview.

Remembering the presentation of the jacket, Bhadresh Dodhia, director of Dodhia Group, who was also co-chairman of Bharat Tex 2024, says, “It was a moment of immense pride for me to present a symbol of sustainable fashion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration of Bharat Tex 2024. This significant event not only showcased innovative textile technologies but also reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to sustainability across all spheres of life.”

The recycled jacket, symbolising the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, embodies the ethos of sustainable living deeply ingrained in Indian culture. “Prime Minister Modi’s impassioned address struck a chord with us, emphasising the urgent need for sustainability to steer our collective journey forward,” adds Dodhia.

Extending his sincere gratitude to Modi for his steadfast dedication to fostering a greener future, not only for India but also on a global scale, Dodhia said, “His resolute support underscores the paramount importance of sustainability in shaping our shared destiny.”

Dodhia also expressed his gratitude to Minister of Commerce and Textiles Piyush Goyal and others, whose invaluable contributions have played a pivotal role in creating an enabling environment for sustainable growth within the textile industry.

Bharat Tex 2024 marks the dawn of a new era characterised by collaboration, innovation, and sustainable practices in the Indian textile sector. “As we confront the challenges and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting sustainability as a guiding principle in all our endeavours. Together, let us continue to weave a brighter, greener future for generations to come,” Dodhia concluded.
