Kenyan principal secretary for trade Chris Kiptoo recently presented the country’s national African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) strategy and action plan 2018-2023 to US Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer in Washington, DC. The strategy aims to double Kenya’s US export value from $552 million in 2016 to $1,105 million in 2023.

Officially launched on July 31 this year, the strategy was developed through US Agency for International Development (USAID) support.

USAID helped map Kenya’s trade with the United States, identify sectors with competitive export products, assess supply-side challenges and determine strategic action plans, according to a press release from the aid agency.

A US-Kenya Trade and Investment Working Group was also announced to support comprehensive trade policies and lay the groundwork for a stronger future trade relationship. (DS)
