About 30 Indian exhibitors are displaying a variety of fabrics, made-ups, home textiles and blended yarn at the India International Textiles Expo (IITExpo) exhibition that opened in Colombo on July 29. The three-day event is organised by the Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) of India with support from the ministries of textiles and commerce and industry.
Suja K Menon, head of the economic wing at the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said several Sri Lankan companies are investing in India in the textile sector, contributing to the growth of the Indian economy, according to Sri Lankan media reports.
PDEXCIL has been associated with Sri Lanka since 1998. There also exists a memorandum of understanding between PDEXCIL and the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA), which was signed in Gujarat in June 2017. (DS)
