India’s leading lifestyle and fashion conglomerate Arvind Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to certify khadi denim and khadi products made by Arvind. As per the agreement, the company will acquire khadi from KVIC and sell their designer khadi products with khadi mark.

The KVIC-Arvind initiative is a step towards achieving its goal of making khadi available for all, said media reports quoting KVIC chairman VK Saxena who was present during the announcement of the agreement. During the launch, Arvind showcased its khadi denim collection.

"The group’s vision is to build a substantially scalable supply chain platform, capable of servicing large international brand requirements. Several of Arvind’s potential clients are major fashion brands which have expressed interest in creating their clothing lines around Khadi Denim," said executive director at Arvind, Punit Lalbhai.

KVIC has also partnered with Raymond and Aditya Birla Fashion Retail (ABFR) to launch khadi products with the certification of khadi. "Involvement of corporates in khadi industry shall help the artisans to generate more income. This will increase the demand of khadi and khadi institutions to get more orders," said Saxena. (RR)
