Burton, one of the leading men's clothing and fashion retailers, has announced its sustainability goals for 2020. With commitment to transparency, the company has crafted goals with focus on 3 aspects namely product, people and playground. To reduce impact on the planet, it will pair practical change with constant progression on the local and global scale.

The company is striving to make hard goods create 20 per cent less carbon emissions from cradle to gate by using life cycle assessment (LCA) to target the highest impact areas of improved materials, reduced waste, and energy efficiency. By 2020, its soft goods will use 100 per cent bluesign approved materials, 100 per cent sustainable cotton, 50 per cent recycled polyester and will use only 100 per cent PFC-free durable water repellency.

"We know it's up to us to change the game. Inspired by the challenge ahead, we feel more fortunate than ever for the privately-owned nature of Burton. This is why we can pursue sustainability over profit, and why protecting the health of our community is our longest standing tradition," said Burton in a press release.

With the aim to be eco-friendly by 2020, the company has planned to divert 75 per cent of waste from landfill at global headquarters, repair 40 per cent of global product warranty claims, achieve 20 per cent CO2e footprint reduction at global HQs and establish an end of life programme at retail.
