Debenhams has announced that 52 stores across England and Wales will start to close permanently between May 2 and May 8. The rest 45 stores will be kept open until May 15, which will mark the final store closure for the brand. The stores were opened about two weeks ago to clear the stock after lockdown restrictions were lifted from non-essential retail.

The department store chain said that the closing down sale was the last chance for customers to say goodbye to the local shops before they close for good, according to British media reports.
Debenhams had closed all 15 of its stores in Scotland last month, rendering almost 650 people jobless.
Fashion retailer Boohoo purchased the UK-based brand and website for £55 million, but it did not take on any of the chain’s 118 High Street stores or workforce.
