Switzerland's Ventile launches PFC-free DWR water repellent treatment

06 Dec 21 2 min read

Ventile has launched PFC-free DWR, the industry’s first renewably sourced water repellent treatment of its kind. The new finish contains 63 per cent renewably sourced content derived from a variety of plant-based sources. The Switzerland-based firm is known for its natural, all-weather cotton textile that is grown sustainably and is durable and reliable.

Recent developments in fabric technology have given the ability to move away from the use of PFCs which are known to result in an unnecessary environmental cost. Over the last two years, the company has worked closely with scientists, textile experts and dye houses to find a DWR replacement for PFCs that doesn’t compromise the quality of the fabric. Through rigorous testing in both the lab and field, the new environmentally friendly PFC-free DWR continues to deliver the performance specifications relevant for the end-user, the company said in a media statement.

“This is a milestone moment for Ventile, one which we are incredibly proud to announce after years in the making. As part of our commitment to environmental protection and sustainable textile production, moving to a PFC-free solution was the natural next step for our business. With the help of industry experts, we have created an environmentally friendly solution, a first of its kind in the textile industry, which continues to deliver the performance specifications Ventile fabric is renowned for,” Ventile marketing manager, Daniel Odermatt said.
