Seventy three per cent of UAE consumers have been shopping more online than they did before the pandemic started, according to a Mastercard study, which found fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), healthcare, apparel and banking have witnessed the highest surge of online activity. Sixty six per cent of respondents said they had shopped more online for clothing.
The study offers significant insights into how shoppers are rapidly moving away from cash and opting for contact-free and digital payment experiences.
As e-commerce increasingly becomes a part of everyday life, consumers are moving other aspects of their financial management to digital, with 70 per cent of respondents having started banking online, Mastercard said in a press release.
The research also reveals the rising impact of social media on consumer spending habits, with 72 per cent and 56 per cent of respondents saying they had discovered new sellers through Facebook and Instagram respectively.
