The e-commerce logistics index in China was 112.4 points in December last year, down by 0.7 points from the November figure, according to data released recently by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and e-commerce firm JD.com.

The federation attributed the decline primarily to the end of the online shopping promotions and expects the index to stay high in January, helped by multiple factors, including a seasonal surge in spending for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

However, the country's e-commerce logistics index averaged at 110.1 points in 2023—4.2 points higher than the 2022 average, according to a state-controlled media outlet.

The country’s total business volume sub-index decreased slightly to 123.6 points in December. The logistics timeliness sub-index continued to fall last month, down by 0.9 points from November.
