Taiwan’s commerce and economic affairs ministries will co-host ‘Taipei Fashion Week’ in November, injecting the country’s cultural elements into the fashion industry, vice minister for commerce Lee Lien-chuan announced recently. Unlike fashion weeks abroad that are mostly funded by private parties, the Taiwanese Government will spearhead the effort, he said.

The event will later nurture into a fashion feast held by a private commission, modelled on the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, Lee said at a pre-show press event for ‘Creative Expo Taiwan 2018.

The commission will comprise members from the government, industry and academia, and will be responsible for determining the themes for each annual event.

The two ministries had teamed up to launch a flagship program at a budget of $54 million last year which saw the country's fashion, audiovisual, and music industries coming together, according to Taiwanese media reports.

Buyers from around the globe will be invited to attend the events to increase the local fashion industry’s international profile, Lee added. (DS)
