UK's Selfridges opens virtual department store in metaverse

British department store chain Selfridges opened a virtual store in Decentraland, a 3D virtual social platform, as part of the Metaverse Fashion Week, joining more than 70 brands, artists and designers in creating a new experience ‘at the intersection of fashion and technology’. It showcased the exclusive Universe NFTs by Paco Rabanne and Fondation Vasarely.

“This is the first meta department store in the history of Web3 and anybody can visit. Interact as a guest or attach your crypto wallet to access all features, while keeping your in-world progress and digital assets safe,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.
The first ever Metaverse Fashion Week was held from March 24-27.
Other brands like DKNY, Privé Porter and Charles & Keith also opened their virtual shops for the virtual fashion week.
