India's khadi, village industries product sales rise

Sale of khadi and village industries products in India increased to ₹59,098 crore in 2017-18 over ₹52,138 crore in 2016-17, according to data shared by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) minister Giriraj Singh in a written reply to parliament upper house. Production of these products rose to ₹48,013 crore in 2017-18 from ₹42,631 crore in the previous fiscal.

"The growth of khadi and village industries has increased considerably during the last two years," an official press release quoted the minister as saying.

In a separate reply, Singh said 15.19 lakh MSMEs have been registered on Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum Portal in 2017-18 and 4.90 lakh in 2018-19. (DS)
