Indonesia’s industry minister Ir. Airlangga Hartarto recently visited Riau province to review the progress of Asia Pacific Rayon’s (APR) new factory that will become the country’s largest integrated rayon facility. With an annual production capacity of up to 350,000 tonnes, it will help reduce the nation’s dependency on imported cotton and rayon materials.
With an investment of around 10.9 trillion rupiah, APR’s factory will generate job opportunities and fulfill domestic demand. An estimated 4,230 and 1,218 jobs will be created in the construction and operational phases respectively, while the construction will potentially contribute to an increase in Riau province’s gross domestic product of up to 1.49 per cent from the non-oil and gas sectors, according to a company press release.
All production in the factory will be from cent per cent renewable, existing plantation supply that has been legally certified nationally and internationally. Rayon fibre is produced from natural plants and has a better water and air absorption than cotton material. (DS)
