Kaha, a smart wearable IoT platform company based in Singapore, has introduced a smart t-shirt prototype which can monitor body health and wellness. The prototype has been developed in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) under its Collaborative Industry Project (CIP) on smart apparel innovation.

The smart t-shirt captures body vitals with the help of its printed flexible hybrid electronics and transmits the information to a detachable smart module present on the apparel. The module is responsible for cleaning the transmitted data and share it with the KaHa IoT platform which then analyses it.

The prototype is capable of monitoring heart rate and it alerts wearers if it reaches 80 per cent of the person’s maximum heart rate. The t-shirt can also track electrocardiography and maximal aerobic capacity and can be expected to track other biometrics such as blood pressure and breathing patterns.

Flexible Hybrid Electronics (FHE) is the key enabling technology for wearable electronics involves integrating ultra-thin silicon components using precision engineering handling; printing with conductive and active inks and pasting on stretchable substrates. The applications of smart wearables are in sports and fitness, healthcare and wellness monitoring as well as infotainment, said the company in a press release.

SIMTech launched CIP on smart wearable innovation programme to equip the local industry and grow the eco-system to be ready for the explosive growth in smart wearables.

“KaHa is delighted to work alongside SIMTech as a strategic partner, to guide and develop the nascent but exciting smart wearables and FHE eco-system in Singapore. CIP is a great platform to engage with partners to testbed ideas and launch new innovative products,” said Sim Seo Lay, head of business development and operations, KaHa Pte Ltd. (KD)
