Denmark-based clothing company Bestseller has joined forces with German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in Myanmar’s textile and garment industry. GIZ is a development agency focused on international cooperation that is owned by the German government.

Together with GIZ and as a member of Action, Collaboration, Transformation (ACT), Bestseller has supported the development of a communication campaign focused on the risk of spreading COVID-19 during supply chain workers’ daily commute to factories.

The communication campaign includes posters targeted at workers, as well as the drivers that transfer them to the factories on a daily basis, outlining strategies for reducing the risk of infection on collective transportation vehicles. The governments of both Myanmar and Germany have been involved in the initiative.

Bestseller’s collaboration with GIZ is a prime example of how we work to promote and improve the wellbeing and security of supply chain workers through membership organisations, and global and national stakeholders.

“All the social engagement work that we do, whether on our own or through different memberships and associations, is focused around promoting dignity, equality and safe working conditions for all the workers in our supply chain,” said Andrei Vasiliev, Bestseller’s social impact manager, in a statement.

“This communication campaign will help our supply chain partners and workers in reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection not only on the factory floor, but during their daily commute to and from the workplace,” Vasiliev added.

Since the global outbreak of COVID-19, Bestseller has worked tirelessly to help its supply chain partners, with a particular focus on the health and wellbeing of workers. "Helping factory management and workers navigate the pandemic is critical to maintaining a relatively stable supply chain for Bestseller," the statement added.
