Walmart launches new private label clothing brands

10 Mar 18 1 min read

Walmart has launched four private label clothing brands to better penetrate the apparel space and battle rival Amazon, which is rapidly gaining market share in the sector. The former has been acquiring small online brands like Shoebuy, Modcloth and Bonobos over the last year to boost growth, as consumers now prefer buying clothing and accessories online.

The new private brands -- Time and Tru, Terra & Sky, Wonder Nation and George, are exclusively available in Walmart stores and on Walmart.com starting March 1, according to Walmart website.

Amazon’s apparels category has sharply gained in popularity, with footwear and casual clothing proving to be the online retailer’s most popular categories and ease of browsing its biggest draw, according to a survey of 1,699 shoppers by Coresight Research.

Walmart, the largest US clothing retailer, is upgrading apparel sections in its stores with improved displays, open floor plans and better fitting rooms, the survey noted. (DS)
