The real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 0.6 per cent and the nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 2 per cent higher, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in May 2022 compared with April 2022, according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Retail trade in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather products was up by 10.6 per cent in May 2022.

Compared with May 2021, retail trade recorded a 3.6 per cent decrease in turnover in real terms and a nominal increase of 4.1 per cent in May 2022. The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases in retail trade, Destatis said in a press release.
