Consumer prices in France rise by 0.9% MoM, 3% YoY in Feb 2024

France’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.9 per cent month on month (MoM) in February following a 0.2 per cent MoM drop in January.

The rebound is explained in particular by the strong acceleration of the prices of energy—a 4.1-per cent MoM rise in February after a 0.1-per cent MoM rise in January. Energy prices rose by 4.3 per cent YoY in February after a 1.9-per cent increase in January.

The prices of manufactured products partially bounced back, with a CPI rise of 0.5 per cent MoM in February after a 1.7-per cent fall in January.

The prices of manufactured products increased by 0.4 per cent year on year (YoY) in February following a 0.7-per cent rise in January, slowing down for the eighth month in a row. The prices fell back for furniture and furnishings.

The prices of clothing and footwear rose by 0.9 per cent YoY in February after a 0.4-per cent YoY rise in the preceding month.

Seasonally-adjusted consumer prices increased by 0.5 per cent MoM in February after no change in January.

Consumer prices went up by 3 per cent YoY in February after a 3.1-per cent YoY increase in January. Inflation over a year thus decreased slightly in February this year despite the sharp increase in prices over one month, notably due to base effects.

Core inflation decreased again YoY, reaching 2.7 per cent in February after 3 per cent in January.
