Seasonally-adjusted Feb Italy retail trade index up 0.1% MoM, 2.4% YoY

Italy’s seasonally-adjusted retail trade index saw a 0.1 per cent month-on-month (MoM) increase in February this year, reflecting the same gains in both value and volume, according to the official statistical agency Istat.

In the three months to February, value of sales grew by 0.1 per cent, while volume of sales decreased by 0.3 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ).

The value of retail trade increased by 2.4 per cent year on year (YoY) in February, sustaining a positive trend since February 2021. The volume of sales also returned to growth after 18 months of negative results, rising by 0.3 per cent YoY.

Large-scale distribution was up by 4 per cent in February, while small-scale distribution grew by 1 per cent and non-store retail sales dropped by 1.6 per cent.

Online sales showed a reversal following four months of growth, declining by 0.5 per cent YoY, an Istat release said.

While there was no change in value terms in the retail trade growth of furniture, textile items and household furnishings, that of shoes, leather goods and travel items rose by 2.2 per cent YoY during February.
