- The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics reportedly plans to introduce district-wise GDP data to better analyse economic growth, income distribution, consumption, investment, structural changes, savings, production structure and per capita income.
- The aim is to assist the government and policymakers in formulating a sustainable development plan.
Apart from setting up physical and soft infrastructure, conducting surveys and studies, and compiling district GDP data, the project by the statistics and informatics division (SID) seeks to enhance the existing system of quarterly GDP, expected to be introduced in the upcoming fiscal.
The aim is to assist the government and policymakers in formulating a sustainable development plan. The data will enable ranking of divisions and districts based on resource availability and vulnerability, media reports from the country said.
Appreciating the initiative, economists say district GDP will be instrumental in identifying constraints and potential at the district level and play a crucial role in local-level economic planning.
