China's consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.3 per cent year on year (YoY) in December last year, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show. The core CPI, excluding food and energy prices, went up by 0.6 per cent YoY last month.

The CPI went up by 0.1 per cent month on month (MoM) in December, reversing a 0.5-per cent decline registered in November last year.

The producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, went down by 2.7 per cent YoY and 0.3 per cent MoM in December. The decrease narrowed from a 3-per cent YoY decline in November, a state-controlled news outlet reported.

The country's CPI went up by 0.2 per cent YoY and the PPI went down by 3 per cent YoY in 2023.
