PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI), a subsidiary of Malaysian company LOTTE Chemical Titan Holding, recently held a ground-breaking ceremony for its Lotte chemical Indonesia new ethylene (LINE) project in Cilegon in Banten. The project, which includes a naphtha cracker and petrochemical complex that produces downstream products, is at planning stage now.
The construction is expected to commence in 2019 or 2020 and completed in 2023, Indonesian media reported citing a company statement.
Indonesia imports more than half of its petrochemical products and hence the additional domestic production from LINE will improve the country’s trade balance significantly, according to the company. The LINE project will lead to the creation of jobs and significantly expand the plastic fabrication industry, it feels. (DS)
