Meghalaya state in India’s north-east recently organised a one-day sericulture fair at Ummulong village in West Jaintia Hills that was attended by sericulture experts and around 200 silk farmers from across the state. The silk industry has emerged as a key engine to drive economic growth in the silk-producing state by offering alternative income modes.

The Central Silk Board Research Centre awarded farmers and shared technology with them at the event, a news agency reported.
