Pakistan's textile exports stable in July 2018

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan remained almost stable in dollar terms in July 2018, compared to the same month of the previous year. During the month, Pakistan earned $1.002 billion from textile and apparel exports, down 0.49 per cent over exports of $1.006 billion achieved in July 2017, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 7.78 per cent year-on-year to $208.880 million during the million, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were down 0.46 per cent to $211.213 million.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $0.901 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 8.71 per cent compared to exports of $0.987 million during the same month of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed increase of 7.62 per cent and fetched $117.343 million, as against exports of $109.030 million made during July 2017. Exports of cotton fabric, however, declined 9.94 per cent and were valued at $144.210 million during the month, while bedwear exports dropped by 3.56 per cent to $164.764 million, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 7.74 per cent year-on-year to $46.971 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 17.25 per cent to $48.587 million.
Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined sharply by 36.49 per cent year-on-year to $26.007 million during the month under review.
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (RKS)
