31 Aug 17 2 min read

SDL Atlas has reintroduced the Bean Bag Snag Tester, which tumbles fabric pillows containing a weighted bean bag within two separate test cylinders to determine the snagging and picking characteristics of knitted fabrics. The company had discontinued this instrument years ago because of low demand, but it is now being specified by several retailers.

SDL Atlas is UK headquarter textile testing solutions provider. It offers the largest range of textile testing equipment, laboratory products, consumable items, and support services available from a single source.

“Just as some fashions come back into style, so has the Bean Bag Snag Tester,” SDL Atlas said in a statement. “Different snagging tests that have been available over the past decade have not been satisfactory for all fabric types.  As retailers searched for a solution, they went back in time to the Bean Bag Snag Tester.”

The Bean Bag Snag Tester is designed to determine the snagging and picking characteristics of fabrics by tumbling fabrics pillows containing a weighted bean bag within two separate test cylinders provided with eight pinned bars, rotating at 20RPM for 100 revolutions. Provided with predetermined electronic counter, it meets requirements to perform ASTM D 5362, Standard Method for Resistance to Snagging.

Each bean bag is filled with shot and weighs approximately 0.45 kg (1 lb).

SDL has offices and experts in the US, UK, Hong Kong and China, plus agents serving over 100 countries. (RKS)
