Turkish unemployed number rises by 2,000 to 3.337 mn in Jun over May

The number of unemployed persons aged 15 and above in Turkiye increased by 2,000 to 3.337 million in June this year compared to the May figure, according to the country’s Household Labour Force Survey.

The unemployment rate was an estimated 9.6 per cent during the month, with a 0.1-percentage-point increase compared to May. It was 7.8 per cent for men and 13.2 per cent for women, the survey estimated.

The number of employed persons decreased by 363,000 to 31.291 million in June this year compared to the May figure. The employment rate was 47.8 per cent in the month, with a 0.6-percentage-point decrease compared to the previous month. This rate was 65.2 per cent for men, and 30.8 per cent for women.

The number of persons in the labour force was 34.629 million, with a decrease of 359,000 in June compared to the previous month.

Labour force participation rate was 52.9 per cent in the month, with a 0.6-percentage-point decrease. This rate was 70.7 per cent for men, and 35.5 per cent for women.

The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 18.6 per cent, with a 1.2-percentage-point increase compared to the May figure. This rate was 15.4 per cent for men and 24.2 per cent for women.
