US dollar rises to new historic peak against Vietnamese dong on Apr 16

- The US dollar rose to a new historic peak against the Vietnamese dong this afternoon, with Vietcombank posting rates between 24,978 VND to 25,348 VND for buying and selling, marking a rise of 168 VND from yesterday.
- The dollar has been strengthening against the dong for four consecutive days since April 12 from an exchange rate of 24,096 VND per USD.
The rates of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) were recorded at 25,036 VND and 25,346 VND, while Vietinbank's rates stood at 25,020 VND and 25,348 VND.
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)’s official rate was 24,141 VND—a rise of 45 VND from yesterday.
The dollar has been strengthening against the dong for four consecutive days since April 12 from an exchange rate of 24,096 VND per US dollar.
Banks are implementing a ceiling exchange rate of 25,348 VND per US dollar and a floor exchange rate of 22,933 VND per US dollar, according to domestic media reports.
The exchange rate witnessed significant fluctuations yesterday following a week of dollar gains.
The greenback has gained 3.6 per cent against the Vietnamese dong since the year began, pushing the exchange rate to the ceiling limit set by the central bank.
