Italy's employment rate dips by 0.2 pp to 60% in August 2022: Istat

On a monthly basis, the decline of employment (-0.3 per cent, -74 thousand) involved both genders and was widespread in all age groups, with the exception of people aged 15-24 years, for which remained stable.
In the last month, the drop of unemployed persons (-1.6 per cent, -31 thousand) was recorded for men and people aged under 35. The unemployment rate declined to 7.8 per cent (-0.1 pp) and the youth rate too to 21.2 per cent (-1.9 pp).
In August the increase of inactive people aged 15-64 (+0.7 per cent, +91 thousand) concerned both genders and all age groups. The inactivity rate rose to 34.8 per cent (+0.3 pp).

In the period June-August 2022, with respect to the previous quarter (March-May 2022), employment rose (+0.4 per cent, +85 thousand).
In the last three months, a drop was registered for both unemployed persons (-3.7 per cent, -76 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.1 per cent, -19 thousand), Istat said.
Compared with August 2021, the number of employed persons increased by 1.8 per cent (+406 thousand), the growth concerned both genders and all age groups except 35-49 years; the employment rate showed an increase of 1.5 pp.
On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of both unemployed persons (-14.1 per cent, -319 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-2.6 per cent, -344 thousand).
