Japanese firm Asahi Kasei posts July-Sept sales of ¥1,181 bn

Asahi Kasei Corporation, a Japanese chemical company also involved in apparel materials, has posted a 19.4 per cent sales rise to ¥1,181.0 billion (Japanese yen) in the second quarter (Q2) of FY21 ended on September 30, 2021, over the same period of previous fiscal. Net income during the quarter rose to ¥92.4 billion (Q2 FY20: ¥48.3 billion).

Operating income for the three-month period surged 47.4 per cent to ¥113.1 billion (¥76.7 billion), while ordinary income increased to ¥119.2 billion (¥77.5 billion). Moreover, gross profit during Q3 rose to ¥386.0 billion (¥322.6 billion), and selling, general and administrative expenses totalled to ¥272.9 billion (¥245.9 billion).
 
The increased shipments with recovery of automobile related markets, and rapid rise in petrochemical market prices with recovery of demand considerably pushed the materials segment sales to ¥570.3 billion (¥438.4 billion), according to the company. 
 
In its outlook, Asahi Kasei said that it expects FY21 sales to reach new record highs to ¥2,453.0 billion, up 16.5 per cent over FY20.
