Seasonally-adjusted euro area unemployment rate 6.4% in Nov 2023

The euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4 per cent in November last year, down from 6.5 per cent in October and from 6.7 per cent in November 2022.

The European Union (EU) unemployment rate was 5.9 per cent in the month, also down from 6 per cent in October and from 6.1 per cent in November 2022, according to EU statistical office Eurostat.

Eurostat estimates that 12.954 million persons in the EU, of whom 10.970 million in the euro area, were unemployed in November last year.

Compared with October 2023, unemployment decreased by 144,000 in the EU and by 99,000 in the euro area. Compared with November 2022, unemployment decreased by 283,000 in the EU and by 282,000 in the euro area.

In November last year, 2.814 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.321 million were in the euro area. The youth unemployment rate was 14.5 per cent both in the EU and in the euro area during the month, down from 14.8 per cent in both regions in the previous month.

Compared with October 2023, youth unemployment decreased by 60,000 in the EU and by 54,000 in the euro area. Compared with November 2022, youth unemployment increased by 36,000 in the EU and by 49,000 in the euro area.

The unemployment rate for women was 6.2 per cent in the EU in November last year, down from 6.3 per cent in October. The unemployment rate for men was 5.7 per cent during the month, stable compared with the previous month.

In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.8 per cent during the month, down from 6.9 per cent in October, and the unemployment rate for men was 6.1 per cent, down from 6.2 per cent in the previous month.
