The Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), an independent customs service under the supervisory oversight of the Nigerian Ministry of Finance, responsible for the collection of customs revenue, facilitation of both national and international trade, anti-smuggling, and security activities, has initiated a proactive step by spearheading Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) programme.

This is as per media reports, which added while taking part in a stakeholders’ meeting held recently in Abuja, Adewale Adeniyi, who is the comptroller-general of Customs highlighted the pivotal role the programme would play in fostering collaboration between the customs service, other government agencies, and experts to elevate AEO initiatives even as he underlined the importance of collective effort to transform the prevailing narrative surrounding the ease of conducting business in and around Nigerian ports

Expressing confidence in the successful implementation of the AEO pilot programme, Adewale Adeniyi underlined the programme is slated to start in April while adding that AOE will cut across virtually all the players in the sector, enabling to address pertinent issues while reiterating the organisation’s commitment to optimise trading experiences within the country.

Aimed at enhancing efficiency and predictability of trade facilitation efforts across Nigeria, the AOE pilot programme has twofold objective, evaluating the visibility and effectiveness of AEO implementation within the Nigeria Customs Service and gather feedback from the key stakeholders.
