Egypt's textile exports fall to $257 mn in Jan 2020

Egypt’s textile exports fell to $257 million in January, down by 0.4 per cent from $258 million in the same month last year. Over 2019, textile exports rose by 0.1 per cent to $3.053 billion from $3.048 billion in the previous year, according to the monthly report released recently by the country’s Textiles, Apparel, and Home Textiles Export Council.

In January, the exports of readymade garments fell by 3 per cent, while the exports of home furnishing and textiles rose by 9 per cent and 2 per cent respectively, according to Egyptian media reports.

Egypt’s textile exports to the United States rose by 1 per cent year on year (YoY) to $96.2 million last January, while the country’s textile exports to African countries grew by 15 per cent YOY to $4.5 million from $3.9 million earlier.

Meanwhile, the country’s textile exports to Arab countries dropped by 6 per cent to $30 million from $32 million in January 2019.
