Pakistan textile exports up 2.95% in July-September FY20

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 2.95 per cent in dollar terms in first three months of fiscal 2019-2020, compared to the same months of 2018-2019. During the period, Pakistan earned $3.371 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $3.275 billion in fiscal 2018-19, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 11.14 per cent year-on-year to $779.548 million during the first three month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 11.48 per cent to $667.361 million.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $10.828 million during the period under review, showing an increase of 53.65 per cent compared to exports of $7.047 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 6.19 per cent and fetched $294.280 million, as against exports of $313.707 million made during first three months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric decreased by 5.60 per cent and were valued at $499.419 million during the first three months of fiscal 2019-20, while bedwear exports increased by 2.84 per cent to $600.562 million, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 21.32 per cent to $114.130 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk were down by 22.77 per cent to $118.458 million year-on-year. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan increased by 12.46 per cent year-on-year to $125.737 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion from $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
