- Cambodia's Svay Rieng province governor Peng Posa, during a recent visit to Vietnam's Long An International Port, suggested the port should be turned into an international border gate.
- It can turn a key trade bridge linking Cambodia and a transit port as well, he noted.
- Both sides will conduct a joint survey and report the results for consideration.
The port can also serve as a convenient transit port for commoditities traveling between other countries and Cambodia, he said.
Posa recently visited the seaport in the Tan Tap commune of Can Giuoc district of Long An province in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region to promote cooperation between the two bordering provinces.
Relevant agencies of the two provinces will conduct a joint survey of the port to develop it in that manner and report the results to the authorities of both sides for consideration and approval, he was cited as saying by a Cambodian media outlet.
The Long An International Port Operation & Management Joint Stock Company has observed the rising demand from several businesses for transit and transhipment of goods via the port.
