Cambodia's LDC graduation triennial review to be done by UN in 2024

Following the 2021 confirmation of Cambodia’s eligibility to graduate from the least developed country (LDC) status, the United Nations has recommended graduation ‘as early as 2027’, so long as the same standards are met when the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) assesses Cambodia again in 2024 triennial review. The UN has three criteria for the country to graduate.
The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of the country is now $1,377. The human assets index is 8.3 points above the threshold at 74.3, and the economic and environment vulnerable index is at 30.6.
However, at a recent workshop on preparing for a sustainable LDC graduation of Cambodia, Pauline Tamesis of the UN Resident Coordinator Office noted that these positive statistics had yet to be offset against the impact of the pandemic, a Cambodian newspaper reported.

Cambodia needs to “accelerate its efforts to recover better from the pandemic and reduce vulnerability and inequality,” she added.
