Govt exempts PPE, face mask import from customs duty

Considering the immediate requirement of personal protection equipment (PPE), face masks, surgical masks, and other items in the context of the ongoing novel coronavirus (Covid-19) situation, the Central Government has granted exemption from Basic Customs Duty and Health cess on the import of such goods and inputs for these goods, with immediate effect.

The basic customs duty exemption shall be available upto September 30, 2020 on PPE, face masks, surgical masks, ventilators, Covid-19 test kits, and inputs for manufacture of these items, an official notification said.
