Pak textile mills face power outages, low gas pressure
08 Jul 20 1 min read
All Pakistan Textile Mills Association’s (APTMA) Punjab unit chairman Adil Bashir recently said frequent power outages, inadequate supply of gas and extremely low gas pressure are posing a serious problem for the manufacturing units in the province. In addition, member mills were facing interruptions in the supply of critical furnace oil, he said.
Furnace oil is used for manufacturing processes like dyeing, drying and heating.
Under these circumstances, it is tough for textile mills to maintain a smooth flow of export orders, Bashir said, adding that all efforts for resolution of the issue at the local level have been futile.
Bashir urged power and petroleum minister Omar Ayub Khan, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) chief executive officer Mujahid Pervez Chattha and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) managing director Amer Tufail to immediately restore normal supply of gas and electricity to textile manufacturing units, according to Pakistani media reports.
