Brazilian footwear industry to explore Saudi market
04 Jun 18 2 min read
Brazilian footwear firms participating in ‘Brazilian Footwear’ trade fair have chosen Saudi Arabia as one of the destinations to promote their products in 2019-20. The fair is organized by the Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (ABICALCADOS) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and aims to globalise Brazilian brands.
Every two years the program selects countries to work upon to open their markets. For the next two-year period, the companies have chosen to continue their promotion activities in France, China, the United States and the United Kingdom and have selected three new countries to focus on: South Korea, Peru and Saudi Arabia, the last one being the only Arab nation in the group, according to a news agency report.
According to ABICALCADOS project manager Roberta Ramos, Brazilian Footwear members account for 80 per cent of Brazilian footwear exports. Among the entrepreneurs participating in the program, there are those which already exported to Saudi Arabia, lost ground and now want to retake the market and those that haven’t yet sold their footwear in the country.
Although Brazil already sells footwear to Saudi Arabia, sales are not very big. Since Saudi Arabia is a new market for Brazilian Footwear, work will begin with a survey of the market’s potential. A team will later travel to Saudi Arabia to explore the market by talking to players and influencers before outlining a commercial promotion strategy. (DS)
