Making customised jeans a key differentiator for Unspun
11 Jul 19 1 min read
Manufacturing customised jeans is a key differentiator for San Francisco-based Unspun, a robotics and apparel firm, according to Walden Lam, chief hustler and co-founder. As its jeans are made from body scanning technology and sustainable fabrics, those are inherently different. The firm works with partners in Asia, Europe and North America, Lam said.
For outsourced manufacturing activities, Lam observes a shift away from a sole focus on cost. In the medium term, he also sees the beginning of the end of cheap labour as the company is already producing in places like Ethiopia.
Labour costs are generally going to rise and manufacturers are already looking to automation as part of the solution, Lam told Fibre2Fashion in an interview. (DS)
