Amid surging energy costs, Japan's wholesale prices reached the highest level in November this year, with the corporate goods price index increasing by 9.3 per cent from a year earlier, according to Bank of Japan data. The key index rose for the 21st straight month to 118.5 last month, reaching its highest level since comparable data became available in 1960.

The biggest contributor to the rises in corporate prices during the month was the price of electric power, gas and water, which rose by 49.7 per cent from a year earlier, a news agency reported citing a bank document.
