Pakistan textile exports down 2.79% in July-April FY20

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 2.79 per cent in dollar terms in first ten months of fiscal 2019-2020, compared to the same months of 2018-2019. During the period, Pakistan earned $10.816 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $11.127 billion in July-April 2018-19, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports dipped slightly by 0.15 per cent year-on-year to $2.392 billion during the ten-month period ending April 30, 2020, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 2.06 per cent to $2.231 billion.
 
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $17.007 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 8.33 per cent compared to exports of $18.553 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
 
Cotton yarn exports decreased by 8.79 per cent to $858.580 million, as against exports of $941.334 million made during the first ten months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric also declined by 9.71 per cent and were valued at $1.602 billion during the first ten months of fiscal 2019-20. Bedwear exports too decreased by 3.26 per cent to $1.838 billion, the data showed.
 
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 20.35 per cent year-on-year to $378.651 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn declined 16.91 per cent to $456.282 million. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased by 12.52 per cent year-on-year to $380.446 million during the period under review.
 
In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion over $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
