The Government of Bangladesh has increased the country’s readymade garments export target for the current fiscal 2018-19 beginning July 1, to $32.689 billion, from previous fiscal’s target of $30.160 billion, Export Promotion Bureau said. During July-June 2017-18, Bangladesh exported garments worth $30.614 billion, surpassing the target by 1.51 per cent.

In July 2018, clothing exports fetched $3.017 billion for Bangladesh, registering a jump of 21.72 per cent over $2.479 billion exports achieved in the same month of the previous year. The percentage increase in garment exports during the month was higher than 19.88 per cent growth in overall exports from Bangladesh during the same period.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 20.88 per cent to $1.527 billion in the first month of the current fiscal, as against exports of $1.263 billion during July 2017, as per the data. Likewise, exports of woven apparel increased 22.59 per cent to $1.490 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $1.215 billion during the corresponding month of last year.

Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for 84.25 per cent of $3.581 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the month under review. (RKS)
