The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the ministry of commerce to simplify export procedures for the RMG industry to help it address current challenges. BGMEA has also apprised the commerce minister about the problems being faced by the apparel sector and has requested steps from the government to resolve them.

The request was made when a delegation of BGMEA led by President Faruque Hassan met with the commerce minister Tipu Munshi MP at the secretariat recently, BGMEA said in a press release.

“While the RMG industry is in the course of recovering from the massive impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Omicron variant is creating fresh concerns among the exporters and posing new challenges to the sector,” BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said.

“We need to safeguard the garment industry in difficult situations since it serves as the mainstay of Bangladesh’s economy. Government’s support is crucial to help the industry thrive even in tough situations,” Hassan added while expressing gratitude to the government for the support which helped the apparel sector to survive in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and turn around

The delegation included BGMEA first vice president Syed Nazrul Islam, vice president Shahidullah Azim, vice president (finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, vice president Md. Nasir Uddin, vice president Miran Ali, vice president Rakibul Alam Chowdhury and director Asif Ashraf.
