Contracts worth Rs 250 cr signed at Coir Kerala 2017

Trade agreements worth Rs 250 crore were signed at the recently concluded annual Coir Kerala expo in Alappuzha, which targeted both foreign and domestic markets. Agreements worth Rs 175 crore were signed last year at the expo. Maharashtra offered the Kerala State Coir Corporation a Rs 2.32-crore contract for a coir-machine-making factory.

The contract by the Maharashtra Small-Scale Industries Development Corporation includes purchase of electronic ratts, mini de-fibring machine, automatic spinning machine, and hydraulic baling press, media reports said quoting an official press release.

The corporation signed agreements with the Jharkhand Silk and Handloom Goods Development Corporation, the Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation of Assam, the Pradeshik Cooperative Federation of Uttar Pradesh and the Handloom Development Corporation and Textile Board of Uttar Pradesh. An agreement was also signed at the October 5-9 expo to sell coir products via the Central Police Canteen stores.

The state-run Foam Mattings Ltd. Bagged a Rs 1 crore contract from the domestic market. (DS)
