Pakistan textile exports up 4.68% in July-November FY20

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 4.68 per cent in dollar terms in first five months of fiscal 2019-2020, compared to the same months of 2018-2019. During the period, Pakistan earned $5.763 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $5.506 billion in fiscal 2018-19, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 8.69 per cent year-on-year to $1.320 billion during the first five-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 13.19 per cent to $1.156 billion.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $14.277 million during the period under review, showing a increase of 3.67 per cent compared to exports of $13.772 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports showed increase of 2.87 per cent and fetched $486.018 million, as against exports of $472.454 million made during first five months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric decreased by 3.74 per cent and were valued at $847.106 million during the first five months of fiscal 2019-20, while bedwear exports increased by 4.69 per cent to $1.013 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 21.47 per cent to $185.677 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk were down by 11.28 per cent to $219.917 million year-on-year. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased by 1.70 per cent year-on-year to $194.375 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion over $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
