Pakistan's textile & apparel exports up 8.23% in July-Jan FY21

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.83 per cent year-on-year in dollar terms in the first seven months of fiscal 2020-21 that began on July 1. During the seven-month period, Pakistan earned $8.765 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $8.099 billion in July-January 2019-20, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 18.74 per cent year-on-year to $2.175 billion during the seven-month period ending January 31, 2021, while exports of non-knit readymade garments rose 5.48 per cent to $1.773 billion.

Among textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 23.97 per cent to $486.426 million, as against exports of $639.770 million made during the corresponding period of 2019-20. Exports of cotton fabric also declined by 8.63 per cent and were valued at $1.086 billion during July-January 2020-21.

Bedwear exports, on the other hand, increased by 15.91 per cent to $1.613 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports increased 24.30 per cent year-on-year to $324.102 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose 13.73 per cent to $381.612 million during the period under review. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan increased negligibly by 0.65 per cent year-on-year to $282.406 million during the seven-month period.

In fiscal 2019-20 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 6.01 per cent to $12.526 billion over $13.327 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
