Abstract
The study was done on the process development for printing
on cotton fabric with terminalia chebula. Extracted natural dye was used
for printing with different mordants (copper sulphate, ferrous sulphate, and stannous
chloride). In all 4 different shades were developed. Effect of various mordant
on shades in terms of colour strength (K/S values) was evaluated. Fastness
properties (light, washing, and crocking) were also studied on these samples.
There is a need to carry out further research in this field and explore the
possible way for its use in other natural fiber viz., jute, silk etc. Natural
fabric printed with natural dyes in soft and subdued shades creates a fashion
statement. Thus it can be exploited commercially to create opportunities for
rural employment.
Keywords: Cotton, Natural dye, Mordant, Printing, Terminalia
